MOONGLOW ORIGINS
Moonglow first opened back in 1974 and has been running successfully for over 40 years. Originally based in Harrow, the school built up a worldwide reputation for Ballroom and Latin training, largely due to the success of founders Ernie and Myra Chatt, both World and Olympic Champions. Then, disco came on the scene – thanks to the success of the movie Saturday Night Fever – and Moonglow’s first class in this style saw well over 120 people pass through the doors.
For many years, the children's side of the business was run by Ernie and Myra's daughter Bobbie. In 2010, Bobbie took over ownership of the school, before passing the baton in 2015 to Principal Zoë Avis, a long standing pupil and teacher at Moonglow.
It truly is a family affair!
Developments in many areas mean that nowadays, Moonglow offers a wide range of dance styles to its students. Now based in Watford, Moonglow is renowned for the standard of its teaching with an excellent reputation for Freestyle, Disco, Street and Rock ’n’ Roll, training award-winning teams and solo dancers.
Our team, ‘Dazzle!’ was chosen to represent the ISTD at their 2011 Congress at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. The school regularly achieves extremely high exam results and actively promotes the students through newspapers, displays and competitions, where the squad consistently takes home first-place trophies in both local and national events. With a firm emphasis on achieving the best you can while having the maximum amount of fun, our younger pupils regularly stay at Moonglow until they have to leave for university and many have then trained to become teachers at the school.
From the moment you enter the Moonglow doors, you can sense the family environment. Students are supportive of others’ achievements and older, more experienced pupils are encouraged at all times to help the younger, newer performers. The help of our Moonglow mums and dads is invaluable and the whole Moonglow family comes together as much as possible for our medal presentations and MG parties!
